Stacey’s Bona Fides

I love teaching and learning! In my experience, all children want to learn. Everybody has at least some curiosity, and children usually have a lot. I’m excited that as a tutor I have the time to get to know my students and find out what motivates them.

Years of Caring and Educational Experience:

1997 – 2011: military life. I studied as a US Army cadet at West Point; Russian major, environmental engineering minor. Did not graduate: honorable discharge. Then I married and moved around the US as a USAF spouse.

2002/03: I worked as an aide to adults with developmental disabilities. Res-Care Oklahoma

2004: I volunteered with an autistic toddler and his parents at Travis AFB, California, learning the Son-Rise program for autism.

2005: parenting. I had my son in 2005, and have been nurturing and teaching, observing and learning from his developmental process ever since! He is now a high school senior and tutors his peers for SAT prep.

2012 – 2013: I volunteered at Reading Assist in Wilmington, Delaware. There I learned and tutored using the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching reading for students with dyslexia or other reading difficulties.

2015: I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies, concentration in Social Science, from the University of Bridgeport.

2016 – 2022: I worked as an assistant preschool teacher for Cooperative Educational Services School Readiness in Trumbull, CT.

2022 – Present: I run creative writing workshops for kids for Written Out Loud.

Fall 2022: I was the middle school reading interventionist at STEM Academy, Monroe Public Schools.

2023: I was a reading tutor with Book Nook.

August 2023: I started freelance tutoring, and created ConstructivistLearning.com!

January 2024 – Present: I started as a math tutor for SmartStart Education, tutoring in schools during school hours. I tutor privately after school and on weekends.
